Brake lights don't work but tail lights do
WebNov 20, 2024 · My tail lights don't work at all! All the fuses are clean and new. the turn signals work, but none of the rear lights work. No brake lights, no running lights, no parking lights and no reverse lights. the bulbs are all fine. And the Brake warning light is on in the car, I assume this has to do with that? Is there a tail light relay? MBeige WebSep 29, 2010 · It is probably your fuse relay swithch underneath the hood toward the driver side. Pull the plastic cap off the fuse chassis and you'll see a square relay fuse switch and replace it for the brakes. It's only $13 bucks and is the predominant issue with 1997 Chevy Trucks and the brakes not working especially if you reverse and blinker lights do work.

The high center brake light runs on a different circuit than the regular brake lights. If the center light works, it is unlikely the problem is in the brake light switch. Tail lights are the farthest away from the battery.
